Stencil Design

This week I wanted to create stencils that I can use for a tshirt design. Since they will be painted over and used again, they did not need to be prescious so I just used cardboard. I image traced drawings onto illustrator and made it .1 stroke so that the laser cutter would cut out the images. The first attempt I did was the large scale fairy wings on 12x24" cardboard. The first attempt I left the fill in the shape and accidentally pressed rastor instead of vector. This left me with an etching on the cardboard. It wasn't a stencil, but it was still beautiful none the less. My second attempt I wanted to do a stencil of my Dj name, erager. I took the fill out and put it to vector which cut my stencil successfully. However, what I didn't think about was how I needed an element (like tabs or something) to connect my text all together so that the stencil would come out in one piece. I could have also maybe solved this by cutting the reverse of the stencil. Also, all the pieces were loose. For my third attempt, I did the sea turtle stencil. The same thing happened, and now I think i should have reveresed the image, although that would create a different kind of stencil. I learned from my second attempt and taped down the cardboard and put tape over the loose pieces to hold them together. My final two stencils was the fairy outline and the roots. Both those turned out well because they were more simple and all connected in one line.
